Part 10 "You suck," Zack growled, approaching where Tre, Sid, Morgan, and I sat. "Why?" I asked. "Cause I have to be here," he mumbled as he wedged himself between Morgan and me. "Your mom wouldn't come get me, since you weren't coming home, and now I have to go to this stupid thing since Mom can't pick me up until after three." "Oh," I said, chewing on my lower lip for a second. "I'm sorry." "You should be," he murmured. "This thing looks stupid already. And it hasn't even started yet." "Quite the optimist, aren't you, Zack?" Sid asked, blinking at him. The two started up a conversation and Tre pulled me closer to him. Zack didn't even seem to notice that Tre and I were, well, cuddling in the bleachers. I looked around, searching for Steven, expecting for him to be staring at us. That had to be why Tre had pulled me closer. But I couldn't see Steven anywhere. I looked at Tre and he just smiled.
Sure enough, the thing couldn't have sucked anymore. The dance team came out and did their routine, then the seniors started chanting about how the class of '06 rules, and Tre just shook his head. He seemed to be the only senior that didn't think he ruled the school. When it was all over, we sat and waited until most people had left so we wouldn't be stuck in the traffic jam of people filing out the door. Finally we left. Morgan's mom was going to give Sid a ride home, so the two of them waved and left. Tre and I waited with Zack until his mom showed up. Mrs. Nixon (Zack's mom) decided she was going to give Tre the once over, since my mom had probably spoken about him before. "So, are you Tre?" she asked. "Yes..." Tre looked a bit confused. "Oh. I was just wondering," Mrs. Nixon sighed as Zack climbed into the car. She waved at us and drove off. "Well, that was weird," he mumbled as he led me across the parking lot to his car. "I told Mike and Billie I'd meet them at Rita's Italian Ice in...." He looked at his watch. "...4 minutes. Let's go." I opened the door of Tre's car and spotted Steven, staring at the two of us. I didn't even acknowledge that I had noticed his presence. I got into the car. I thoroughly enjoyed making him uncomfortable. It was fun. Tre's car wasn't the nicest, most expensive car, but it was pretty awesome. Fuzzy dice hung from the rearview mirror, along with a sign that read, "These dice aren't the only things that are hung." I laughed when I read that. He had fuzzy seat covers. The interior was like a blast from the 70's. As soon as he turned on the car, the sound of "I Wanna Be Sedated" pumped from the speakers. He smiled and turned down the volume a bit, then backed out of his spot. We drove right past Steven and Allen. I waved out the window at the two of them. Steven just stared, and Allen waved back. "Here we are," Tre announced, as if I had never been to Rita's before. I practically lived at this place. We climbed out of the car. Two guys sat on the bench, waiting. "Hey, guys," Tre said as we walked up. "Finally," one guy with black hair sighed. "You're only, like, two minutes late." We all laughed, even though it wasn't really funny. "And who is this?" the other guy asked. "This is Dori," Tre said. "I'm pretending to be her boyfriend." "Pretending?" asked the first guy. "Yeah. Just to annoy her ex-boyfriend," Tre laughed. "Dori, this is Billie, and this is Mike." I smiled. "Hi." "Hey," said the black-haired guy named Billie. "So are we getting gelattis or what?" "I don't have money," I said. "I'll pay for it," Tre mumbled. "You don't have to..." "No. I want to," he said, pulling out his wallet. "Not fair. You never buy anything for us," Mike protested as we stood in line. "She's a lady," Tre said. "There's a difference." So I ordered myself a vanilla custard, and Tre got one as well. We sat on the bench as Billie and Mike ordered. "Holy crap. We just can't escape him," Tre suddenly mumbled. "Steven's behind you. Just go along with this, okay?" "Okay," I sighed. I acted like it was a pain in my ass or something, but I really enjoyed it. "You have ice cream on your nose," he said, loudly, then leaned forward, kissing my nose. Then he moved to my mouth. We sat there, making out, our ice cream melting. When we were, well, done making out, I looked around. "Where's Steven?" I asked. "Not here," Tre laughed, smiling. "Was he?" "Nope," Tre said, chuckling as he licked his ice cream cone. I just blinked at him for a second, then laughed and shoved him a bit. "I couldn't resist," he said. "You just looked so cute, holding your ice cream and all." I blushed, unsure of what all this meant. Did Tre really like me? I could only hope.

Part 11Tre made no mention of what happened for the rest of the time I hung out with him. Instead, he almost instantly changed the subject. "Where do you live?" he asked. "Over by Lowe's," I said. "Near Wendy's? Or the one at Regency?" "The one near Wendy's," I said. "Really? In that one gated community?" he asked. I nodded. "Sweet. Mike lives there too. He could give you a ride home." "Actually, Billie gave me a ride here on his way home from work," Mike said. "I was kind of hoping you could drive me home. And now it's not a pain in the ass, since you were heading that way anyway." Tre sighed. "Fine," he laughed, although he didn't sound too mad. He finished off his ice cream and tossed the trash into the garbage can next to the bench. "But when I'm ready to leave, you better be ready, too." "I will be," Mike said, finishing off his Italian Ice. "Seeing as how I'm ready right now." "You ready?" Tre asked, looking at me. "As ready as I'll ever be," I said, smiling at him. We got up, waving goodbye at Billie, and went to Tre's car. Mike climbed into the front passenger seat. "Let Dori sit there!" Tre snapped. "I'm fine," I said, but Mike had already begun moving. He climbed into the back and sighed loudly. Tre just rolled his eyes and I climbed into the front next to him. The entire way to my house, Mike complained about everything. He either didn't like the song we were listening to or didn't think Tre was driving fast enough or something. Finally, Tre arrived at my house. "Bye," Mike said. "Bye," I mumbled, waving at him. "Bye," Tre whispered, leaning forward and kissing me. I resisted the impulse to scream, "What the fuck is going on?" But Mike beat me to it. "I thought you were just pretending. You know, to annoy her ex or whatever. I don't think he's in her house," he said. "Yeah, well," Tre murmured, leaning back in his seat. "See you tomorrow, Dori." "Okay. See you. See you later, Mike," I said, waving at him again and getting out of the car. I opened the front door, not surprised to see my mother sitting in the front window, probably having watched the whole thing. "Is that Tre?" she asked. I nodded. "He's cute," she remarked. "Please, don't say that," I said. "Is he your boyfriend?" she questioned. "Sort of. It's a long story. And I really don't feel like going into it," I sighed, walking to my room. She didn't ask any further questions. She just let me go. Which was weird, since normally my mom likes to pry. I threw myself onto my bed and watch the ceiling fan for a few minutes before I got up and walked over to my CD player. I popped in my Bravery CD and cranked it up, singing along with the words to Honest Mistake as I sat down at the computer. I got online and saw that Morgan was online. Our conversation went like this (D representing me and M representing Morgan). D: hey M: hi, what's up? D: not much. just got home. you? M: same. so, how long have you been going out with tre? D: we're not really going out? M: ?? D: we're trying to make steven uncomfortable M: steven? D: you know....my ex M: oh right M: sid was talking about him and how he doesn't seem to like tre all that much D: probably because he still likes me M: he does? D: probably M: does sid know you're not really dating tre? D: no. and don't tell him M: damn M: okay, i won't D: brbI put up my away message and got up, still singing along with the music and walked over to my mirror. I looked at myself for a minute. Today had been one of the weirdest days ever. And here, at the end of it, I still had no idea what the fuck had happened.

Part 12 "Hey, kiddo," Tre said the next morning, approaching me in the courtyard. "Hi," I said as he slipped his arm around my waist. I stared at him for a second. "Could I talk to you?" "Sure," he said, following me as I got up and led him over to an area of the courtyard that wasn't as overly-populated as the rest. "What's up?" "Um, our relationship. I'm having a hard time telling if it's real or if it's fake," I said. "So maybe you could fill me in." Tre laughed. "Depends. Which do you want it to be?" "What?" I asked, blinking at him. "Well, I like you. And I'm figuring you like me. So if you want it to be real, that's great. But if you don't, that's cool too. I mean, whichever you want," he murmured, scratching at the back of his neck. "Um, well, how about we make it real?" I asked, feeling the nervous feeling in the pit of my stomach acting up again. "Are you asking me out?" he asked, chuckling a bit. "Yeah. I am." "Well, I say yes. Let's do it," he smiled. "Do it? God, Tre, we just started dating about three seconds ago. That's a little too fast for me," I remarked. He laughed and threw his arm around my shoulder, guiding me back to where we had been before. Morgan was sitting next to Sid, her head resting on his shoulder. Jade looked like she was about to fall asleep. I sat on the bench next to Morgan and leaned into Tre.
"Hey, Mr. Ming," Tre said, strolling into drama that day. He handed Mr. Ming a note and walked over to where my group stood. Steven looked like he was ready to run off in fear or something. He looked around at everybody. No one else seemed even the slightest bit uncomfortable about me and Tre. Not even Allen. "Are you gonna be coming in here every day and distracting me from my acting?" I asked him. "Pretty much," he said, smiling. "Okay," I laughed, patting the empty chair next to me. He sat in it, then patted his lap. I smiled, then hoisted myself up there. Steven flinched. I smirked. "So I was thinking we do the Trotsky scene that we did last year. Now we have Sid instead of Larin, and I don't think it would be as weird for Jade to be in love with Sid," Steven remarked. "But we already did that scene," I sighed. "And you kept fucking up and stopping the scene." "Yeah," Jade said. "Let's try something different." "But we did awesome with the scene," he complained. "Jade and Larin and I did even better with the dictionary salesmen scene. We didn't mess up once," I said. "And everybody liked it. That doesn't mean we have to do it again." Steven just sighed. "We have to decide on a scene by tomorrow." "What about the one with the crazy British people?" Allen asked. "That narrows it down to about 83% of every play ever written," Sid mumbled. Allen just shot him a look. "Fine, if you don't like my ideas, then I won't come up with anymore," Allen mumbled. "Thank you!" Jade, Sid, Steven and I all said in unison. Tre snickered. "You guys are awfully mean, aren't you?" he asked. "Yes," Jade said. "We are."

Part 13 "So, now that we're a couple, can I have your phone number?" Tre asked just before the bell rang for lunch. "Sure," I said. "You got a pen and a piece of paper?" He dug through his pockets. "I have a Sharpie and a napkin," he said, placing both on the counter. "It'll do," I said, opening the Sharpie and writing down my name and number. Tre hovered over my shoulder, as if he thought I was going to steal the marker or something. "Wow, it has a lot of twos in it," he remarked. "Yup," I said, placing the cap on the marker and handing it to him along with the napkin. "Call me." "I will," he said. "Later tonight." The bell rang and he walked with Jade, Sid and myself down the hallway to the courtyard. Sid headed off, probably looking for Morgan. "Are you going off campus for lunch?" I asked. "Nah," he said. "Unless you want me to go get you something." "Um, how crowded is Rita's at this time of day?" I asked. "Every senior in the school is trying to get in there," he sighed. "Then nevermind. Stay here," I said. He smiled. "Steven doesn't have this lunch," Jade said. "You guys don't have to pretend anymore." "We're not pretending," I laughed. "Tre and I are officially a real couple as of this morning." "Really?" Jade asked. "I need a boyfriend now. You have one and Morgan has one." She put on a sad face. "What about Steven?" Tre asked. Jade made a gagging face and threw her bottle of water at Tre. He stepped aside, narrowly avoiding it, but causing it to smack Dean Scott, the dean of boys, in the back of the head. "Oh shit," I gasped. "Who threw that?" Dean Scott demanded, approaching the three of us. Jade's eyes widened. "I did," Tre said. "Frank. I should've known. I'm surprised I didn't see you in my office sooner. Come with me," he growled. "Frank?" Jade and I asked at the same time. Tre just shrugged and followed Dean Scott into the building. "Why did he say that he did it?" Jade asked. "I threw it." "Cause he's awesome like that," I said, sitting next to her. "Just be thankful. You could be in Dean Scott's office right now." Jade twitched. "Hey guys," Morgan said, strolling over with Sid. I noticed that his hand was on her butt. I didn't say anything. "Hey," I said, then noticed Zack walking towards us. "Dori? Could you come over here?" "Sure," I said, following Zack a few feet away. "What?" "My mom told your mom that she thinks Tre's on drugs," he said. "What?" I stared blankly at him. "My mom was on the phone with your mom last night and she said that you shouldn't be allowed to date Tre because he looks like he's on drugs or something. And I picked up the phone and your mom seemed to believe her. So when your mom tells you that you're not gonna date him anymore, don't be surprised," he said. "What the fuck? Your mom has something to say about everybody, doesn't she?" I asked. "What's that supposed to mean?" Zack questioned. "Well, didn't she go tell your family about what a loser she thought Steven was?" "Yeah, but that was two people! Don't freak out," he growled. "You're defending your mom? This is new!" I snapped, walking away. "Dori!" Zack yelled. "Leave me the fuck alone," I called, continuing to walk.

Part 14 I sat in the car the entire way home in silence, not even acknowledging Zack. I knew he was looking at me, but I acted like I didn't notice. I didn't want to talk about it. Mom kept trying to strike up conversation to break the tension that was obviously floating through the air. But I wasn't paying attention. Somehow, I knew what was coming. We dropped Zack off at his house. He had no sooner gotten out of the car that my mom said, "Dori, I want to talk about this Tre guy." "What about him?" I asked. "Well, is he on drugs?" she asked. "No!" I exclaimed, trying my best to sound totally appauled at the idea. "Why would you think that?" "I just wanted to make sure," she said. "I don't want you falling in with the wrong guy." "I won't," I said. "How about this? How about he comes over for dinner this weekend?" "This weekend?" I asked, feeling like I was going to choke. "Um, I'd have to ask him." "Okay. Let me know what he says," she sighed. "Okay," I agreed, though I wasn't so sure.
"Hey," I said when Tre called me later that night. "What happened with Dean Scott?" "Detention. All week," he sighed. I heard some shuffling in the background. "He wasn't surprised, though. I'm in there all the time for something or another." "I'm not surprised," I laughed. "But my mom wants you to come over for dinner this weekend." "Wow," he whispered. "We've been dating for a matter of hours and already the mom wants to meet me." "She's....weird," I said. "Okay, tell me about her. Like what's her first name." "My mom? Bev." "And does she like guys with a sense of humor?" "Yeah," I said. "How should I dress?" he questioned. "Shorts and a T-shirt. Nothing extravagent." I cracked my knuckles and started pacing around my room, something I did when I was talking on the phone. "Okay. What time?" "I have no idea," I sighed. "Well, let me know. Cause it sounds fun," he commented. "You won't think so once you get here," I murmured.

Part 15 "So, is Tre coming over for dinner on Saturday?" Mom asked as I strolled out my room to say goodnight. "Yeah, I guess," I sighed. "I just told him this weekend, not Saturday specifically." "Well, tell him to bring a bathing suit," Mom said. "The Nixons are coming over too. We're having a bit of a back-to-school party with us and them." I nodded, although I wasn't sure if Zack would be cool with that, considering the way I had freaked out at him. And Mrs. Nixon would be fairly skeptical of Tre the entire time. I knew that much. I said goodnight to both my parents, then headed into my bedroom. I could only imagine how weird Saturday was going to be.
"I look awful," I said. I stood in front of my mirrored closet doors, staring at myself in the blue bathing suit I had bought over the summer but hadn't worn yet. It was 3:00, and Tre was coming over in half an hour. Zack and his family would be there in 15 minutes. I had kind of made up with Zack. Things were a little uncomfortable, but otherwise we were pretty cool. Jade was on the phone, listening to me complain about how fat the suit made me look. "I'm sure you look awesome," she said. "Which bathing suit is it?" "The blue one," I said. "I love the top for that one. And it looks good on you," she said. "I swear." "If it was just the Nixons, I wouldn't care. Because no one in that family really cares how I look in a swimsuit. But Tre might," I whined. "If it bothers him, then he's a crappy boyfriend," Jade said. "Just don't worry about it." "Okay," I sighed, grabbing the terrycloth skirt I wore over my bathing suits and slipping it on. I grabbed my electric razor and went over my legs one more time. "What's that noise?" Jade asked. "My vibrator," I said. "EWWWWW!" she squealed. "I'm kidding," I laughed. "It's my razor." I was hysterical at Jade's reaction. "That was really gross, Dori," she said. I just laughed. "Okay, I don't think there is a single hair left on either of my legs," I finally confirmed, turning off the razor. "There shouldn't be. That's the third time you've shaved your legs since you got on the phone with me," she sighed. "Look, you probably look great. Don't worry about it." The doorbell echoed throughout my house. "Crap, Zack's here. I have to go. I'll call you tomorrow after church and tell you how it goes," I said. "Okay. Bye." I hung up and glanced in the mirror one more time before heading into the family room. Zack was carrying a large cooler and looking board. His dad held a massive pile of CDs and his mom had some sort of casserole. "You look nice," Mrs. Nixon commented. I smiled, resisting the urge to say something to her about Tre. I wondered if she knew he would be joining us. "Thank you," I said, grabbing the casserole from her and carrying it to the kitchen. Zack went onto the patio and put the cooler down, then came back in and hung out with me. We went into the living room and started playing songs on the piano. "Look what I taught myself," I said. I was always teaching myself to play random stuff on the piano. I began to play London Calling. "Awesome," Zack said, and the doorbell rang again. I jumped up and rushed to the door, leaving Zack to pound on the piano, playing no particular rhythm at all. I threw the door open, and there stood Tre. He was wearing a pair of Hawaiian print trunks and an old Ramones shirt (I had one that matched, but then again, several million people probably own that shirt). He held a large case of Mountain Dew. "Hey," he said, greeting me with a kiss. Zack made retching noises from the piano, but no one said anything. I reached out to grab the Mountain Dew. "I have it," he said. "Where am I going?" "The patio," I said, pointing to the patio door as I closed the front door behind him. "Follow me." Zack trudged behind Tre, who was walking behind me, as we walked in almost a parade out to the patio. Mom and Mrs. Nixon were smoking while Dad and Mr. Nixon were gathered around the grill. Tre set the soda on the ground next to the cooler, and my mom practically leapt out of her chair. She took one last drag on the cigarette before putting it out and walking over to Tre. "You must be Tre!" she said, shaking his hand. "I'm Dori's mom. You can just call me Ms. Bev." "Nice to meet you, Ms. Bev," he said. He looked over at Mrs. Nixon, then pointed at her. "Do I know you from somewhere?" "I'm his mother," she said, pointing at Zack, and Tre nodded knowingly. Although I wasn't sure what it was that Tre knew. "So, are we going swimming or what?" Tre questioned, looking at Zack and myself. "Don't you want the tour of the house?" Zack asked, obviously stalling. He wasn't much of a pool person. "Um, sure," Tre said. We stepped inside. "Well, this is the living room," Zack said, guesturing to the walls around us. "This house looks pretty new," Tre commented. "It is," I said. "Just a little more than a year old." "It burned down and they had to rebuild it," Zack explained. "Really? I didn't know that." "Yeah," I said. "That sucks." "But they got all new stuff," Zack said. "And that was pretty cool." He began leading the two of us through the house as if it was his home to give a tour of. "And this is Dori's room," Zack sighed, opening my bedroom door. "Holy shit," Tre said. "How big is this room?" "24 by 12 feet," I said. "Holy shit," he repeated. "This room is awesome. My room's so tiny that I practically have to set my drumset on my bed." I laughed. "Look, let's go swimming. The only other places you need to know of are the bathroom and the kitchen. That's the bathroom," I sighed, pointing to a door, "and the kitchen's right by the family room. Let's go." Zack looked annoyed, but just shrugged as we headed into the backyard. "Hi," my dad said, spying Tre. "Hi. You must be Dori's dad," Tre said. That was a lucky guess. My dad was 67, so most people just assumed he was my grandpa. "And you are?" "This is my boyfriend, Tre," I said. "How old are you?" Dad asked. Go figure. Dad would try to ruin a good thing. "17," he said. Dad raised his eyebrows and looked at me. "Well, Tre, how many hamburgers can you eat?" "Two," Tre said. "My kind of man," Mr. Nixon laughed, and Tre laughed with him, even though it wasn't funny. We then proceeded to the pool. I opened the fence and slipped of my skirt. Tre let out a soft whistle, just loud enough for Zack and I to hear, then pulled off his shirt. Zack trudged into the pool, still wearing his shirt and everything. "God, it's cold," he said. Tre stuck his foot in. "It's not that bad," he said, walking to the deep end and promptly doing a cannon ball. I laughed and went to the deep end. I waited until I was sure I wouldn't land on Tre's head, then dove in. I surfaced in the shallow end and smiled as Zack informed me that my dive would've scored an 8 out of 10. I just stuck my tongue out at him. I watched as Zack and Tre had some sort of weird splashing fight and listened to Mrs. Nixon and my mom talking. "I don't think he's a dope fiend or anything, Deb," Mom said. "Don't you think he's a little old for her?" "Not really," Mom said. "But this is just a first opinion. Let's wait and see." I smiled. Things were going well...kind of.

Part 16 "Well, I had fun," Tre said. We stood in the front yard. The front porch light was on, illuminating the driveway. The Nixons hadn't left yet, and Zack was in the kitchen, waiting for my mom to serve whatever cake it was she had made. Tre had to go, though, cause Billie and Mike wanted to have some late-night band practice or something. "I'm glad," I said. "Hey, what are you doing tomorrow?" "Church," I said. "And then I have youth group tomorrow night." "Well, what about after church and before youth group?" he asked, leaning back against his car. "Nothing...yet," I said, smiling at him. "Okay, well, you want to come hear Billie and Mike and I practice. They'll kill me for bringing you, but I don't care," he said. "Um, sure," I said. "What time?" "Three-ish?" he asked. "I have to pick Zack up for youth at 4:30," I said. "I could go pick him up," Tre said. "I mean, giving you guys a ride to church wouldn't be a problem." "Really? Okay. Sounds good. I'll call you when I get home from church tomorrow and let you know, okay?" I questioned. "Alright," he said. "See you." He kissed me and climbed into the car. I stood and waved as he backed out of the driveway, manuvering around the Nixons' car and heading down the street. I went back into the house and found Zack, who was sitting in the family room, watching the front door as if waiting for me to come in. "GUESS WHAT!" Zack said as soon as I shut the door. "What?" I asked. He practically leapt off the couch and ran towards me. "Two things. First of all, your mom really seems to like Tre." "That's good," I said, glad she was pleased, although I didn't really care either way. "What else?" "You know the house across the street that the people are moving out of but it's not for sale yet?" "Yeah," I said. "Well, my dad went over and talked to them while we were swimming, right? And they talked about it. AND WE'RE MOVING IN!" "OH MY GOD!" I screamed, throwing my arms around Zack's neck and hugging him. "You and I are gonna be neighbors!" "I know!" he said. "This is so awesome." "So is it a definite plan?" I asked. "Yeah. We're definitely buying it. Like, they're not even gonna put it on the market or anything. Cause they weren't asking much, and my dad offered just a little over the asking price and then used his minipulative powers to lower the price to, like, really cheap. And he just told me," he gasped. He was so excited. As was I. "That is so cool. But right now I have to ask Mom if Tre can drive us to youth tomorrow," I said. "Why?" Zack asked, following me as I headed toward the patio. "Cause he wants me to come hear his band practice," I said. "Can I come?" Zack begged. "I'll ask Tre tomorrow," I said. "Until then, just be patient."
"Who's she?" Zack asked. He was sitting in the backseat of Tre's car as we headed to Billie's house, where practice was being held. Tre had no problem with Zack coming to practice. It wasn't like Zack was the third wheel on a date or anything. "Who?" Tre asked, pulling into Billie driveway. Two girls were washing a car in the driveway next door, and Zack was gawking at one of the girls that appeared to be about our age. "That's Juliya and Kara," Tre said. "Which one's which?" Zack asked. "Cause I'm interested in the girl with purple hair." "That's Juliya," Tre said. Zack continued to stare at the girls as Tre and I got out of the car. "You coming or not?" I asked him. "Uh huh," he said, slowly opening the door and attempting to keep from staring, but he was failing horribly. The Kara girl smiled at him, but he wasn't even paying attention to her. His eyes were glued to Juliya. I rolled my eyes and followed Tre into the house, with Zack tagging not far behind. "Finally," Billie sighed, approaching us. "You brought an audience?" "Yup," Tre said. "If you want them to leave, then you'll have to practice without a drummer." "I don't care," Mike said. "Let's just play."

Part 17 "That was awesome," I said as the guys finished practicing. "Really?" Mike asked. "Or are you just saying that cause you're Tre's girlfriend." "No, really," I said, smiling. "I haven't seen a more awesome show...ever. And this one was held in Billie's living room." Mike smiled, seeming pleased. Tre came over and sat next to me on the couch, slipping his arm around my shoulders. "So, Billie, your neighbor, Juliya," Zack said, as if it was usual small talk to bring up someone's next door neighbors. "Is she single?" "As of two weeks ago, yes," Billie said. "Once we broke up." "YOU WENT OUT WITH HER?" Zack almost screamed. "Why the hell would you break up with...her?" He rushed to the window and looked outside, searching for her, but she obviously wasn't outside anymore. "We had nothing in common," Billie mumbled. "Besides the fact that we're both dead sexy." "Could you give me her number or something?" "No! She'd kill me." "Come on. Please," Zack begged, making his most pathetic sad-puppy-dog face. "If you want, I can try and set the two of you up on a date. But there is no fucking way I'm going to give you her number," Billie sighed. "A DATE?" Zack yelped. "Oh my God, I would love you forever," he said. Billie just nodded.
Two weeks later... "Tre's driving me home today," Zack said after school. "Why is my boyfriend driving you home?" I asked, grabbing some books out of my locker. "Speaking of which, where is Tre?" "I don't know," he sighed. "But he's meeting me here. He's going to take me to Billie's house so I can go on my date with Juliya." "You have a date with Juliya?" I asked, hardly believing it. "Wow." "Yeah, I know," Zack said. "So tell your mom I got another ride home, unless she already knows, which she probably does. Don't tell her I'm on a date, though. I told my mom it was some after-school tutoring program." I snorted. "Like she believes that," I murmured. "She did," Zack laughed. "Hey guys," Tre said, bounding around the corner. He kissed me, then opened his locker. He grabbed a math book and looked at me. "Zack told you about what's going on, right?" "Yup," I said. "Good luck with the date, Zack." "Thanks," he smiled. "I still can't believe you're going to date Billie's leftovers," I muttered. "DON'T CALL HER THAT!" Zack said, although he was kind of laughing. I just shook my head as he and Tre headed off. "What just happened?" Jade asked, walking around the corner. "Well, you know that Juliya girl Zack liked so much?" "Yeah," she said, walking with me down the hallway. "They have a date," I said, trying not to laugh. This was so weird. And I don't exactly know why.

Part 18 "Hello?" Zack asked, answering his cell phone. It was about 9:30 at night, and I had gotten kind of bored just sitting around. So I figured I would call and find out how his date with the fantastic Juliya went. "How'd it go?" I asked. "How did what go?" he queried. "Your date. Duh," I sighed, sitting on my bed. I was wearing my pajamas; a pair of AC/DC boxers from JCPenney and a white T-shirt that Tre had screened Green Day's logo onto. Green Day, by the way, was the name the band had finally decided on, after much debate and changing the name every other day. "Oh, right. It...was....AWESOME!" he said in a whisper/scream type voice. "I can't talk too loud cause of my parents, but you know." "What happened? Where'd you guys go?" I asked. "Well, neither of us could drive, so we walked from her house to Chucky Cheese's." "Are you kidding?" "Nope," he laughed. "We went in there and we made fun of this gay guy who worked there that was playing DDR. Then we got some really shitty pizza. And then we played some of the games, which were insanely easy. And we got a bunch of tickets and put them together so I could buy her a stuffed animal. I got her this big teddy bear and we went back to her house. Then she invited me inside, but her brother was watching me, so we couldn't go in her room or anything, so she just got this self-piercing kit out of her bathroom and she put all these piercings on the bear." "Sounds like fun," I said. "It was. You have no idea." "Did you kiss her goodnight?" I asked, tauntingly. "Maybe..." "Awww," I said. That was when I heard the tapping on my window. "Zack, there's something tapping on my window." "Go see what it is," he said. I slowly walked over to the window and opened the shutters, half expecting to see Tre standing there. But it wasn't Tre. Instead, it was Mike. I pulled and strained on the windows until I pulled them open. "What are you doing here?" I asked. "Who is it?" Zack yelled into the phone. "I was just going for a walk and I figured I'd stop by," Mike sighed, climbing in the window. "Wow, nice bedroom." "Thanks," I said. "Who is it?" "It's Mike," I sighed. "What?" Mike asked. He had been looking at my posters and stuff. "I'm on the phone with Zack," I explained. "And he wanted to know who I was talking to." I went back to the phone. "I'm gonna go now. You can finish telling me about you and Juliya tomorrow." "Okay," Zack said, then I hung up. I dropped the phone onto my bed. "If my parents catch you here, I'm dead," I said. "What time do your parents normally go to bed?" Mike asked. "Any time between 10 and midnight. Why?" "Cause I'm actually over here cause Tre wanted me to see if you wanted to hang out with him tonight," he sighed. "Tonight?" I asked. "It's almost ten. And I'm in my pajamas." "Tre makes you out to sound like such a party animal. He's such a liar," Mike mumbled. "Come on! It's a Friday night!" "Hang out with him and do what?" I asked. Mike shrugged. "He wanted to know what time he could come over." "One. Have him call my cell first," I said, a little uneasy about all this. But I would live. Mike just nodded, then climbed out the window, saluting me. I shut the window and turned on my cell phone, sitting on my bed and wondering what it was that Tre was planning.
