Part 10: in which a stoplight turns green, and we meet a Dr. Palkan (Author’s Note: jut so I don’t cause any confusion, part 10 starts right where part 9 left off) Still Mike’s POV I quickly turned the car in a U-turn; luckily for us, traffic going the opposite direction was moving at a much swifter pace. Navy sat in silence. The men on the radio were still chattering away in Spanish, but I had no idea what they were saying. I wasn’t paying attention; my thoughts were all on Billie. I couldn’t help but think what my life would be like without him. I live with him, for goodness sake. We stopped at a red light, and I looked over at Navy. Her hands were folded in her lap, and she was staring straight ahead, out of the windshield. The stoplight flipped to green, and I began driving again. Tre’s POV (because Tre hasn’t been in the story much AND he adds comedic relief) I did a back somersault off my bed and landed on my messy bedroom floor. I was bored. Billie was out playing hooky, and Mime was taking Navy home from school. I picked up a drumstick that had obviously been used many times but I had never seen before in my life and flung it across my room. It made a crash and something fell of the bookcase, but I left it. I hope Billie remembers band practice tonight, I thought. We couldn’t afford to have another practice wasted. I heard the phone ring, but I didn’t make a move. I knew my mom would get it; it was probably for her anyway. “Frank!” I heard her call up the staircase. “Phone!” “Okay Mom...” I said as I stumbled into her bedroom to pick up the cordless. “Yello?” I said into the receiver. “Mike? Where are you? Jail?” I said as I kicked a pillow off the bed and it tumbled to the floor. “no. Maksinser’s General Hospital. Get down here now.” And he hung up. Regular (Navy’s) POV I heard someone sit down next to me. I looked up and saw Mike. “Did you, uhh...” I swallowed. “Did you call Tre?” “Yeah, I think he’s... He’ll be here soon.” I sighed so deeply, I felt like I would never breathe again. Mike began shaking his knee up and down, and then he grabbed one of the issues of Cat Weekly off the side table. He flipped through it so fast, his eyes not focusing on anything, that I knew he wasn’t reading it. I really wish I wasn’t here, I thought. Nobody knew how much pain hospitals caused me. No one knew what happened when I was 3. No one that mattered, anyway. I heard someone rush into the waiting room. It was Tre. His eyes scanned the room; he was obviously looking for Mike. He finally spotted us, and rushed over. “Mike? Navy? What’s going on?!” Tre’s voice was loud, and a couple of people looked over at us. “Tre...listen... uhh.. Billie.... was in a car accident.” “What?! Well, is he okay?” “Uhm.... a doctor is going to let us know shortly. I told them we were here for Billie,” Mike finished. Tre sighed. We sat in silence like that for a couple of minutes, until a clean-looking, middle-aged doctor came into the waiting area. “Mr. Dirnt?” Mike stood up at the sound of his name. “Thats me, Mr....?” “Doctor Palkain. Listen, about Mr. Armstrong...” we all waiting in suspense. “Yes? How is he?” Mike replied. “Well...he’s, uhh...” ---------------------------- WHOO!!!! update. and sorry about the cliffhanger. I just HAD to do it to you =) and sorry about not updating for awhile.. everything with tabby just made my fanfic seem so... unimportant. haven't started writing part 11 yet, but look for an update next weekend at the LATEST. =) (watch out.. whenver I set deadlines for myself, I always end up missing them... )
