Part 6: in which Billie is mean to Navy, and then goes outside Regular POV Ooo, gotta get outta here, cause I’m beggin’ you, I’m beggin’ you, I’m beggin’ you, to be my escape.. ~ I slipped the headphones off my ears and handed them back to Mike. “Fabulous song,” I said. He mumbled something about it being his sister’s CD, and slid the player into his backpack. “Hah! What a LOSER!!” Billie said with a laugh. He was talking about a poor kid that was sitting all by himself in the Pinole cafeteria. I laughed quietly to myself, but I knew that could’ve been me just as easily. “You know Bilie, we uhm, we have an extra chair---” “Uhm, Navy, I don’t think so. He’s not sitting with us,” he said extremely rudely. He sounded an awful lot like those snotty popular people that I hated so much. “Geez Billie, sorry for trying to be nice to anyone,” I mumbled, but was interrupted. “Hey Tabby!!” Bilie greeted a friendly-looking punk girl as she walked up to our table. He kissed her nicely on the lips, and I felt myself turn away. I focused my attention on Mike, and nodded my head towards Tabby. “His girlfriend,” he mouthed. I nodded, and turned back towards Tabby and Billie. They were involved in a conversation about something, so I gave myself the chance to get a good look at her. She was actually very pretty-looking. She looked like she could’ve been a model, but you could tell she would rather be punk. She had black hair with awesome-looking green streaks, and she was a nice height. Not super-tall basketball player height, but not one of those midgets. She was wearing a over-sized AC/DC shirt, and perfectly-broken in dark jeans with a whole in the knee. She was beautiful. I could understand why Billie would have her, because she was definitely one of the most fabulous looking girls in the school. “So yeah, he’s gonna blow a gasket when he finds out I didn’t do my homework again,” Billie said. “Who?” I asked. “Mr. Conack,” Tabby answered. “Oh right.. yeah, he’s gonna go crazy,” I said back, acting like I totally knew how Billie never did his homework for algebra. “So.. uhm, Bilie.. listen...” she cleared her throat. “Could I talk to you? Like, alone? Now?” she asked him. “Uhh.. yeah, sure..” “Great,” she replied, and grabbed him by the arm, leading him outside. “Wonder what that’s all about,” I said to Mike. “I dono....” he told me, never taking his eyes off of Billie and Tabby as they left the cafeteria. I took one last look at them, and then drained my milk carton of its final contents. --------------------------------------- Author’s Note: the song at the beginning of Part 6 was Relient K’s Be My Escape (I thought I should credit it so I don’t get sued or something..) =)

Part 7: in which Billie runs, but Navy follows Billie’s POV I felt her lips brush against my cheek, pause for a moment, and then move away, but it all felt different. “Uhm, so, yeah, I’ve gotta go to American History.. I’ll, uhh, see you later...” Tabby stuttered over her words. “Right..uhm.. don’t.....trip on the way..” I knew my voice sounded cold, but I didn’t care. The bell began to toll, and my fellow classmates began to scramble to whatever classes they were supposed to be in. Right....right....class...... I thought. I couldn’t seem to remember where I was supposed to be going. Whatever. Screw this. And I walked. I walked out of the school courtyard, climbed the chain link fence, and began walking across the parking lot. Man, I thought I would’ve been caught by now, I thought to myself. Actually, they’re probably pretty happy that I left. Then they--- “Billie!” I heard someone call after me. I ignored whoever it was, and kept on walking. I now heard the sound of running feet. “Billie!!!” I heard the same person call after me, and I decided to turn around and face whoever had crossed half the parking lot just to get to me. I saw Navy. “Billie! What the heck do you think you’re doing, just walking out of school like that?” Her breathing was heavy. “Navy--look, I do not want to talk about it right now.” I turned on my heel, and began to walk across the parking lot yet again. I didn’t get far. “Billie! Seriously. What’s wrong?” her voice was urgent. “Okay Navy. Do you want to know whats wrong? Do you really wanna know? Then I’ll effing tell you!” Navy looked kind of frightened. I don’t think she had expected this. “My girlfriend, who I was starting to think I loved, just broke up with me. And,” I laughed. “Do you know what the worst part of this whole thing is? She couldn’t even give me a reason! She couldn’t even give me a goddamn REASON for why she ripped out my heart the way she did!” I sighed, long and deep. I rubbed my eyelids, and then shoved my hands in my pockets. I was getting cold. “And now I’ve got you here, in the freezing parking lot, having to listen to me rant and rave.” “Look, Billie---” Navy started to say. “No really, Navy, its fine. Go on back to class. Really.” “Are you going to come in?” her face looked worried. “Uhm..you know.. I think I just need a bit of a break.....” my sentence trailed off. “Uhm... okay..” she could tell I couldn’t be persuaded. “I guess I’ll just..uhh.. see you around, then...” she began slowly walking back towards the school. I turned around and started walking again away from the school. I took one last look back, and saw Navy. She had stopped, and was now sitting on in the cold parking lot, alone. With her head in her hands. --------------------------------- Did you like Part 7? I think it was actually one of my better parts... Billie got very.. ehh, emotional. This part really got me... I was close to crying as I was writing it... I think I was really feeling his pain. =)

Part 8: in which Navy sees yet another person she doesn’t recognize, and Billie goes under the influence
Regular POV The final bell of the day began to ring, and immediately kids scrambled out of their seats and out the open classroom door. I was the last one of the leave the room; I wasn’t in any hurry. After making the journey to my locker, I threw all of my books in; I wasn’t going to be doing any homework tonight. I wandered the halls for a while, not having any particular destination. Then, thankfully, I saw Mike. He was talking to yet another guy I didn’t recognize, but assumed went to our school. Mike looked up and saw me coming, and he quickly handed the mystery guy a small baggy. I shuddered to think what was inside, and then approached Mike. “Hey...h-hey Navy. How are you?” he asked me, stuttering a little. “I’ve been better. Listen, uhh, Billie usually gives me a ride home, but uhh, since he...” I cleared my throat. Mike jingled something in his palm. “I’ve got a solution to that,” I smiled. We began walking out of school, and there was no one else around. “You’ve got Sammerson for lit, don’t you?” ~ Billie’s POV I kicked a loose stone with my toe, and it skidding, down across the alleyway. Up on the boulevard, cars were whizzing by. I sighed. I had been walking for hours, yet had gotten nowhere. I had just been wandering around, thinking about everything. I stuck my hands into the deep pockets of my over-sized black sweatshirt, and pulled out a small bag of weed with a tiny bit left in the bottom. It seemed to be calling my name. Well.... I thought. I sat down next to an empty garbage can, and then took one last careful look around. !/2 Hour Later... I attempted to stand up, but had great difficulty. I tossed the now empty bag aside; I didn’t see any need for it any longer. I absentmindedly wandered left, right onto the speeding boulevard. The last thing I remember was the feeling of a Cadillac’s windshield hitting my then-throbbing forehead.

Part 9: in which Mike shows off his MAD singing skills, and Navy gets out of the car Regular POV “I'm not--that--innocent!” Mike sang along to the ancient Britney Spears song that was blasting through the car radio. Strangely enough, he was almost perfectly on tune. I laughed until my stomach ached. The song ended, and Mike turned down the radio a couple of notches. He turned on the turn signal, and we moved onto the interstate. “Where are we going?” I asked him. “...You’ll see...” he said with a devilish smile. I nervously laughed. I’m in a car with someone I’ve known for two days, I thought. And now we’re going to a mystery destination. I bit my lip. “Ahh... traffic jam,” Mike said as we slowed down behind a beat-up Chevy. I stared intently out of the windshield; I wanted to see what was slowing us down. Mike began to scan through the radio stations at warp speed. I figured he must be the kind of person who fidgeted when bored. I didn’t say anything to him, just absentmindedly stopped staring out the front window and started staring out the window next to me. Where could Billie be? I asked myself. You know.. he probably just went home or something.... yeah, thats it. I made myself believe that, because I knew if I kept thinking about it, I would worry myself to death. Mike finally stopped on a Spanish talk station, and I could feel his eyes staring into the back of my head. “N-Navy?” he asked me. I turned to face him, and looked him in the eyes. “Billie didn’t uhh... he didn’t say where he was going, did he?” Mike knew I had been the last person who I had seen Billie before he had just wandered off. “No... no he didn’t,” I said with a sigh. An ambulance went speeding past us, and Mike leaned his head out the window to see if he could catch a glimpse of where it was headed. “Its stopped right ahead of us...” Traffic inched forward again, and we were near to the scene of the accident. I put my hand to my mouth when I say who the paramedics who loading onto the stretcher, but no sound came out. It was Billie. Mike’s POV My mind raced at the sight of Billie being placed on the stretcher. I saw, out of the corner of my eye, Navy unlock her door and get out. Traffic was at a stand-still, but I still didn’t think she should be getting out of the car on the highway. I quickly got out of the driver’s seat and followed after her. “Navy!” I called after her. I ran to catch up with her. I grabbed onto her arm, but she forcefully pulled away. Her eyes were still glued on the site of Billie being loaded into the ambulance. The vehicle turned its lights on, and Navy watched it drive away. She turned back to me. “Hospital,” she said. And began to walk back to the car.
