Preface
Lonely, now that was a word that Delaine was very familiar with. She felt it almost everyday of her life. She was getting quiet used to the empty feeling she always felt at the pit of her stomach. If misery loved company than she and misery were best friends.
Abandonment was something that seemed to follow her everywhere. People just floated in and out of her life leaving a catastrophic emotional mess. Her family abandoned her, her friends abandoned her and so did everybody that she felt she could trust. Every time someone abandoned her, misery was always there to keep her company.
Dreaming was something that she spent most of her life doing. Dreaming sheltered her from the hurt that the real world seemed to offer her. Dreaming kept misery way from her. She was lonely in the real world so she created her own world where she had friends, where she had a family, where there was no such thing as “loneliness”, “misery” and “pain”. It was a carefree world were love and company were in abundance and there was a state of perpetual peace that no one dared to disturb.
Delaine was a fighter and that would never change. And fight she did. Everyday she fought against the thoughts of giving up, the thoughts of just ending it all and the thoughts of things being hopeless because in spite of everything that she had been through, she still had hope. Hope for a happier future where she could smile freely and live to love.
She had promised herself long ago that she wouldn’t lose hope and, though this promise became harder too keep each day, she refused to give up. It was like a flame that you couldn’t extinguish and it burned in the back of her mind giving her a reason to keep living. Things had to get better eventually right? So she waited patiently for “eventually” to arrive. She prayed it would come soon for misery had been a bit too clingy lately. She remembered the saying that she had been repeating to herself everyday of her life.” Strength came form patience” so patient she would be.
