Alright. Updation.
Part 10
BILLIE’S POINT OF VIEW
I hugged Nye tightly. “You did the right thing.”
“Thanks, Barney. But I do feel all nice and tingly inside…” she replied.
Tre walked up just then. “Nye.”
She let go of me and turned. “That’s me.”
“Hey…uh…why did you do it?” he asked.
She shrugged. “I couldn’t just leave her there. I guess I’m the Good Samaritan. Actually, I kinda do fit the criteria….” She pondered this.
Tre smiled and nodded. “So…are you gonna visit her?”
“For what? I did enough, don’t you think?”
“Look at it this way, Nye,” Mike said, appearing out of nowhere. “If you go, you can rub it in her face.”
Nye thought about that for a moment. “Well…that’s not such a bad idea…”
I shook my head. “I knew it wouldn’t last long.”
ADRIENNE’S POINT OF VIEW
Tests, tests, tests. That’s all these damn doctors do, and expect you to wait. My parents had made their way down to the food court, and promised to bring my back actual food. As I was waiting, I heard the door open, so I turned to look. It was Tre.
“Adrienne! Are you feeling better?” he asked.
I shrugged. “They still don’t know what’s wrong with me.”
“Oh. Well, I brought some people to see you…” he said slowly, and stepped away from the door. In walked Nye, Billie Joe, and Mike.
I blinked. “Hello.”
They responded in the same way to me, and it got quiet. So I turned on the TV. And what was on but my new favorite show, the Rugrats. I sat back and began watching.
“Wow. She really is watching the Rugrats…”Billie Joe commented.
“I don’t know why I hated it, as you say. I especially love it when Chuckie says ‘I don’t think that’s such a good idea.’ It reminds me of something…” I said, pretending to be deep in thought.
“Yeah, I’m sure it sounds familiar…” Billie Joe grumbled.
“What was that?” I asked.
“Nothing.”
Didn’t think so, I thought to myself.
TRE’S POINT OF VIEW
I was waiting outside Adrienne’s hospital room, seeing as the doctor only wanted her parents to hear her test results. I twiddled my thumbs just for a bit, (*starts singing* I’m sick of all the same old shit…) kind of anxious. It was weird. Ever since Adrienne lost her memory, I didn’t feel so reluctant to be with her anymore. In a way, I kinda hoped the doctor was telling them that she had amnesia for the rest of her life. That would make us all happy.
Yeah, the visit earlier that day was awkward. And poor me was just in the middle of it. Adrienne did get around to thanking Nye, who said a very strained your welcome. That’s as good as it would get, I suppose.
Seeing as I was a bit lost in thought, I was kind of startled when the door opened and the doctor walked out. Her parents followed soon.
“Tre?” Mr. Nesser said to me.
“Sir?” Fathers always intimidated me.
“I want you to be honest with us. In addition to the sickness, did you notice any strange behavior from Adrienne?”
I frowned. “Strange behavior? No, not really…there was the occasional mood swing but…why? What’s wrong?”
Her mom spoke up. I noticed that there were tears in her eyes. “Digitalis inhalation.”
“What’s digitalis?” I asked, feeling kinda stupid for not knowing.
“It’s a powerful heart medication. I have some at my office, but I did notice that two bottles were missing. Would you happen to know anything about that?” her dad was giving me a stern glance.
I shook my head. “No sir. Not at all.” Then I thought back. “But….awhile ago, I did notice a bottle of pills on her dresser…I asked whether she took medicine for something, but she said that they were yours and that she was gonna take them back to you.” I didn’t like the look that he was giving me.
“Are you sure?”
“Positive.” I felt like a scared little child.
They both nodded. “Very well,” he dad said, then they walked off without another word.
I leaned against the wall. Great. Just great.
